Title: Beauty in the Broken
Maker: Kathy K. Wylie
Quilter: Kathy K. Wylie
Design Basis: Maker's Original Design
In the same way that stars can only be seen at night, there is beauty that is only experienced in hardship. This quilt was inspired by those profound moments of love amid our suffering, laughter in our sorrow, hope in our despair. The beauty in the broken.

Title: Floral Symphony No. 2
Maker: Mariya Waters
Quilter: Mariya Waters
Design Basis: Maker's Original Design
Inspired by the vintage embroideries of Poland, Russia and Hungary. This quilt began in 2016. Constructed using whole unit turned edge hand applique. It was completely re-made following a disaster during the commercial quilting process. I managed to save about 80% of the applique. The re-make (2020-2023) was completed in 25 strips using the Quilt As You Go method. This allowed me to do the complex quilting on my domestic sewing machine.

As an artist working with textiles, I enjoy trying to capture the effects of reflection, transparency, and the refraction of light on water and other reflective materials. Rick McGrath’s photo taken in Yosemite had much reflection and transparency. I hand dye much of my own fabric for this type of work, and add some media (ink usually) as needed. Machine quilted.

“Walk until the darkness becomes a memory, and you become the sun on the next traveler’s horizon,” is the full quote from Kobe’s ‘Wizenard’ novel, “Training Camp”. Mamba continues to be a source of inspiration to millions. His myth-like mentality fueled a generation to elevate our game and become better versions of ourselves. With my third quilt, I challenged myself to make my most ambitious work yet.

I have always love Stargazer Lilies. This one is planted next to my great Grandmothers Snowball bush. My focus was the left stem but of course, the lilies themselves are just wonderful too.
